Pain management specialist Dr. Yusuf Mosuro wants to remind busy adults that they need more water than they think. Since our bodies are composed of about 60% water, if we are dehydrated, our body doesn’t work as efficiently.

Dr. Yusuf Mosuro shares these three quick rules for drinking water:

  1. Drink half of your bodyweight in ounces
  2. Carry a water bottle everywhere to serve as a reminder
  3. Eat raw fruits and veggies, they are dense in water

But simply saying drink water isn’t enough. There are very real positives to drinking enough water. Dr. Yusuf Mosuro explains some of them. The most basic one is that without water, we cannot survive. Sure, it won’t be immediate, but that doesn’t make it any less serious. Water is necessary and we need to make it a priority in our lives.

Water can also be linked to reducing the risk of colon cancer, bladder cancer, and possibly breast cancer. It helps people lose weight, because often we mistake thirst for hunger. Water before food helps quench the thirst. It also flushed out waste and bacteria. If we aren’t flushing it out, it stays in us and cause several problems.

Drinking enough water can help lessen joint pain and prevent headaches. It also positively helps our mood. No one wants to be cranky, and dehydration can lead to grumpiness and confusion. Confusion can lead to poor performance, which is another reason drinking water is important. Mental and physical performance relies on our appropriate water intake.

Proper hydration leads to healthy skin, both in color and texture. It also helps with body temperature regulation. Dr. Yusuf Mosuro encourages you to listen to your body, and drink enough water every day. Spend some time each day reflecting on the good things in your life, advises Dr. Yusuf Mosuro.
